If you were born in the 80’s or 90’s you know how much Boy Bands and Girl Groups absolutely dominated the music industry. The fabricated personas of a group of 3-5 individuals were all the rage back then from the cute one, the bad boy, the sporty one, the list goes on and on. While they may not be as popular as they used to be, there’s something primal that happens when you play a song from one of these groups that transports you back to your pre-teen era; and before you know it you are belting out on a karaoke stage and dancing your face off. So this week join Tuong La and Teen Music Heart Throbs Desiree Connors Warmington, Kristine Shadid, and Marc Quintaneiro as they get down, get down, and move it all around while ranking Top 5 Boy Bands and Girl Groups.
Ground Rules
- In order to be able to set some sort of draw some sort of line for this topic, we have decided that NO INSTRUMENTS are allowed to be played regularly by band members. Otherwise Red Hot Chili Peppers would count as a boy band for example.
- This means that bands like Jonas Brothers, Hansons, The Moffats, etc. are not allowed.
- Some groups you know they are a boy band/girl group based on a “feeling”. These noms would be discussed on the cast on a case by case basis.
- Fictional groups can technically count if the group has more than just one song and embody the spirit of the category.
- Dancing is not necessarily a requirement of the group but typically a boy band and girl group would be doing this sort of thing.
- Cultural relevance/impact can also be a factor
- We realize that there are many boy bands/girl groups, especially now, that are mega popular in South Korea. Since we are from Ontario, Canada (and because of our general age range) our knowledge on those groups are pretty limited so you won’t be seeing much of those on our lists.
