74 – Top 5 Movies of the 2010 Decade

10 years of movies, that can’t be THAT hard to Rank right?…right?

The 2010 decade is coming to an end and, looking back, the movie landscape has shifted and changed drastically in the last 10 years. The Twenty-Tens gave rise to streaming, obligatory sequels, reboots, and shared universes; while many smaller indie films struggled to break through the box office. The amount of content we face these days is endless so coming with a list of our favorites was a tough one (especially since it’s been such a great decade for movies).  So join us as Tuong La and Sassy Cinephiles Taylor Fleming, Stephanie Ridgeway, and Sean Mulhern pull out all their movie knowledge and rank down the behemoth of a list that is Top 5 Movies of the 2010 Decade!

Ground Rules

  • For this list “Top” does not necessarily mean just the “Best” movies. It is a combination of being great and influential to the decade. ie: “When I think of what movies really shaped the 2010 decade, I think of [insert movie here]”.
    • NOTE: The reasoning behind this is this podcast episode could have gone a number of different ways on what we consider the “top”. Giving it this extra set of criteria helped us narrow down a list that goes beyond just our personal favorites (because we obviously loved all our nominations)
  • Some movies are great on their own but movies that had a big cultural impact and were influential to the movie industry will be more heavily considered opposed to movies that could have happened in any decade.
  • Movies that came out between 2010-2019 are eligible for nomination
  • This podcast was recorded on November 20, 2019 so if somehow movies that came out after that are the best of the decade well..SORRY.
